Baguette Fromage

You can say that the Baguette Fromage (Cheese Sticks) is one of the first cookies that we had in Mauritius. From that time till now, all Mauritians still have the same love we had for it ages ago. This cookie serves as a Gajack is a must on almost all birthday parties, parties with friends, movie time, or just any party you have. Although it is one of the cheapest cookies you have in Mauritius, it would be great if you can prepare it for your family. Right? So let's see how we can prepare it easily at home within minutes. 

 

 

Preparation time: <15 minutes

Cooking time: 5 to 10 minutes

Difficulty: Easy

Serves: 3 People

 

Ingredients for Baguette Fromage:

  • 75g flour
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 10g grated cheddar cheese
  • 10g margarine or melted butter
  • 1 pinch of baking powder (optional)
  • Water
  • Frying oil
     

Preparation of baguette fromage:

  1. Sift the flour into a bowl.
  2. Add salt, baking powder and cheese. Knead with fingertips.
  3. Add margarine. Mix well.
  4. Add 1-2 tablespoons of water and knead 1-2 minutes to obtain a homogeneous dough.
  5. Heat an oil bath in a wok or similar on low heat.
  6. Roll out the dough thinly on a lightly floured work surface.
  7. Cut out 1 cm strips.
  8. Fry them in the oil, turning them until they are golden.
  9. Place on paper towels and let cool before eating.
