10 Best Crisco Recipes

These Crisco recipes are largely for sweet meals, with the exception of the Amish bread and buttermilk biscuits, but let's face it, that's where Crisco really shines.

Ever wonder why older versions of your grandma's recipes for sweets, cookies, bread, and other fatty, carbohydrate-rich dishes tasted so much better?

Although my grandmother was undoubtedly a better cook than you, this does not always explain why.

Instead, it might be because she used Crisco and lard a lot more frequently.

Whatever your opinion of them, the cuisine simply tasted better when using those traditional components.

In light of this, I've compiled 10 of my all-time favorite recipes using Crisco to share with you.

Don't take my word for it when I say you shouldn't use anything else in place of the Crisco.

1. Pie Crust

This pie crust just only four ingredients and is flaky, delicate, and delicious enough to eat on its own. (I'm serious. I completed it.)

To make it, all-purpose flour, salt, Crisco, and water are all that is required.

It's quite easy to do, and the raw dough has a solid, sticky texture that makes shaping the crust effortless.

Making pies entirely from scratch has never been simpler.

2. Butter Tarts

It has a deep, almost decadent flavor that wonderfully balances the buttery flavor of the crust.

They are perfect for potlucks and gatherings because each one is just the right size for one or two bites.

However, if there are more people around to share them with, a dozen of these delectable bites won't be enough, so you might want to quadruple the recipe.

3. Lemon Blueberry Scones

The sweet and tangy flavors of these crunchy, flaky scones work perfectly together.

Lemon zest gives them a shockingly tart kick despite the cookies' rich sweetness and sweet dough.

Both sweet and acidic blueberries combine flavors to create a delightful delicacy that is expertly balanced.

I adore how nuanced the flavor is, and I really enjoy how beautifully crispy it is.

They offer a fair amount of carbohydrates but almost little fat, making them a tasty treat almost any time of the day.

They go well with finger sandwiches and hot tea, in my opinion. It gives me the impression that royalty is hosting a garden party.

4. Buttermilk Biscuits

A soft, fluffy biscuit is almost the only thing I adore more in the morning.

However, they are much better if you can include a few flaky layers.

There are only three things required to produce some of the greatest buttermilk biscuits I've ever had.

Everyone's favorite meal of the day can be made with some Crisco, self-rising flour, and buttermilk.

However, they also go well with fried chicken or pork chops for dinner.

5. Banana Nut Bread

The majority of people are aware of my love for Hawaiian banana bread, but this recipe is for when you simply want a classic loaf of rich, nutty banana bread.

Its interior is silky and moist, and it's surprisingly filling. The edges are stunningly crunchy and have a lovely brown color on the outside.

Before serving, I always give mine a light dusting of powdered sugar, but aside from that, I pretty much follow this recipe exactly as given.

6. Amish Bread

There are Amish communities in at least 31 of the 50 states in the United States.

You probably already know how frequently people travel to those states to buy cheese and bread if you reside in one of those states.

You may have even been to one yourself.

There is a purpose for why individuals go there to purchase such basic food items. It's because Amish cheese and bread are delicious.

You can prepare your own Amish bread using this recipe.

Water, yeast, sugar, salt, Crisco, and all-purpose flour are all you need.

Imagine, as you likely already have everything mentioned in your kitchen.

In just a few hours, if you go to the kitchen right away, you can eat this warm, fluffy bread!

7. Peanut Butter Cookies

I am immediately transported back to my grandma's kitchen with its Formica counters and massive Kelvinator that she refuses to replace when I look at these chewy, round, peanut butter cookies with fork marks in the center.

Their delicate goodness almost makes me cry when I take one bite, both from recollection and how delicious they are.

These were authentic. Therefore, this is the recipe you should use if you want to recreate a classic peanut butter cookie.

8. Chocolate Chip Cookies with Crisco

Cookies taste and feel amazing thanks to Crisco, which gives them a rich, exquisite flavor and a soft, moist texture.

Some of my favorite cookies are these chocolate chip ones.

Each bite is better than the last, and they have a wonderful golden-brown color.

If you want, feel free to substitute bittersweet or dark chocolate chips, but don't forget the Crisco.

9. Vanilla Cupcakes

Compared to traditional cupcakes, these one-bowl treats are thicker and more satisfying.

If you prefer a sweet start to the morning, they make fantastic breakfast pastries.

They taste strongly of vanilla and have a wonderful spongy texture. Instead of vanilla, add almond extract if you prefer a nuttier flavor.

They are so delicious that you can eat them with or without icing and still love them.

10. Strawberry Shortcake

Crisco has the added benefit of being vegan-friendly by nature.

The business most likely wasn't thinking about it in 1911, but it's probably happy about it now.

So grab some Crisco and try this recipe for strawberry shortcake if you're searching for a delicious treat that is vegan-friendly and has a bit of heat.

The strawberry shortcake served in individual servings may not seem like any other strawberry shortcake you've seen, but I find them to be endearing.

Simply layer vegan shortbread, vegan whipped cream, and sugared strawberries to create the cake.

Each cake is a little piece of vegan goodness and just only a few minutes to prepare.
